What is the living cost in San Francisco?

I am relocating to San Francisco for 5 or 6 months. My main concern is about the living cost, which neighborhood do you recommend? I am planning to live with 3,000 dollars a month. Is that enough for rent, food, entertainment, etc? Thank you for your help!

  1. with 3,000 a month you have a very large selection of apartments to choose from. the apartments go from ~$900-$XXXX monthly. food, if you know where to look and what to buy should be roughly ~$200-$300 a month, entertainment is pretty much up to you, paying the bills, I'd say have at least 400-500 dollars ready. I think you could get by 6 months living in the city with 3 grand, it just depends how you spend it.
  2. Google/Yahoo Cost of Living, you will find many websites that compare cities, $3000 is not much if it's total amount for all your costs, especially without a roommate. You would struggle to rent for under $1500, I guess. Cow Hollow might have reasonable rents in the city, but it's been a while since I lived there,
  3. $3000/month would be over average salary in SF, you will not have problem if you use money wisely. Studio to one bedroom, rent $1500 to 2000( 20% San Francisco residents living in rent-controlled apartment for $800 2 bed/2 bath) Don't need a car,a fairly good public transit, otherwise a monthly parking in downtown $300 Gas $4.09 Food, if you eat out all and like bars, expectd $500 to 800. Other expenditure for $300/month.
  4. $3,000/month is a low average salary for San Francisco, especially if you're going to live alone. A reasonable studio will be at least $1500. Others have given you estimates for food and transportation. You also have to think about electric, gas, cable, internet, insurance, clothing, medical expenses. If you are frugal, you could make it on that amount.
  5. If you're planing on staying in San Francisco for five to six months I'd recommend living in Lake Merritt is just across the Bay in Oakland it has to Bart stations near it. Great neighborhood and it'll cost you about 500 to $800 a month less than if you live in the city of San Francisco. If you'd like to know more about the restaurants, entertainment, transportation and must see sites click on the web site below. It'll tell you everything you want to know about sentences to
  6. Honestly, with all of the extra little things a month you need like internet, garbage, electricity, water, clothing, food and things like that - $3000 seems a little on the low end of making it in San Francisco. If its just you relocating to San Francisco, I would srongly recommend looking for room mates to live with on Craigslist. You can live in a huge lovely Victorian house in SF from anywhwere from $800 to $2000 with roommates. As far as neighborhoods to live in, it depends on what you like to do in your spare time. I live in the Richmond District very close to the ocean and it's very nice for walks to the beach and to have bonfires on the beach. A few good neighborhoods that I'd live in is the Haight District, Cole Valley or North Beach. Those neighborhoods have very nice architecture and great little shops to go to in the evening. Either way you slice it, as long as you don't go further East than Market Street and the Tenderloin, you'll find some good places for rent. Good luck on your search and hopefully we'll see you here soon!
