How do people live with the smog in Los Angeles?

I was recently in San Diego on a leisure trip, just wanted to check it out. It is a beautiful city. I also took a one day side trip to LA just to see it because I've never been there before, and driving up Interstate 5 into LA, I could see the smog all around the city, it was absolutely nasty. It smelled like exhaust fumes on the entire freeway. I ended up taking the 101 to Sunset Blvd straight into Beverly Hills, which I wanted to see. The heart of beverly hills (Rodeo dr,Wilshire) are absolutely beautiful. But when I jumped onto Santa Monica Blvd through Hollywood back to the 101, it was nasty, nothing like I thought it would be. Other than if you live in Beverly Hills and the other wealthyareas(Bel Aire, Brentwood, Malibu etc.), what is the attraction of this city? It was dirty, traffic was horrible, and overall it was just a disgusting city. San Diego is much more beautiful.

  1. oh for cryin out loud. When will the rest of the country understand that la-la land is REAL and not just a fictisious place in the movies. There are nasty parts of san diego too, IF you go looking for them, the difference is, LA's nasty places are well known by tourists. yeah hollywood is a PIT, most of it anyway, but did you drive in the hollywood hills? what about brentwood, simi valley, ventura county, orange county, rancho, hacienda, chino hills? of course not PS, you dont like our fair city? good, stay the hell out, we've got enough tourists who can't determine the difference between reality and make believe, and prefer that they stay out of our neighborhoods oh and as far as the smog? there are good and bad sides to everything, yeah the freeway stinks, but what do you expect a freeway to smell like? roses? the good side of the smog> it makes for one hell of a sunset
  2. It is not always smoggy, sometimes the sky is very blue and beautiful. lol Of course that is rare. I've been here all my life, not in Los Angeles, I was born in Hollywood but live in Orange County. I don't go into L.A. unless I'm going to the airport to fly out of here. The smog is bad, but what is even worse is the traffic and to many people. I've often wondered what the attraction is, that brings so many people to live here. Most say it is the weather. To me it wouldn't be enough of a reason to move here. I hate it. If everyone would quit moving out here it wouldn't be so bad either. So you want me to tell you what the attraction is of this city? I haven't got a clue. I don't think anyone really likes L.A. It is the surrounding cities like you mentioned, that are nice. Only downtown L.A. is the pits. I think every state has its good and bad areas.
